ELSA

(Emotional Literacy Support Assistant)

I am the ELSA for the Alsagers Bank Primary Academy.  I am available to help any child in school who may have any emotional problems. These can be social skills, emotions, bereavement, anger management, self-esteem and counselling skills to help with focus and friendships.

We are lucky enough to have a lovely room, within the library, for the children to come into where they can talk freely, relax, play games, draw or complete craft activities. The child chooses what they would like to do.

Each session for the child lasts between half an hour to three quarters of an hour and we have six sessions in total. If I feel a child needs extra help with something I will talk to their parents about this and will get other agencies involved. These agencies can include DOVE (bereavement), GLOW (domestic abuse) and SAPLINGS (behaviour). Each session is individualised for the child and their specific requirements.
